The air intervention composite wing's rapid transition from concept to reality began in October 1991 when Air Force redesignated the wing as the 366th Wing. The emphasis of this study is to help meet monitoring requirements for any future pre-listing Conservation Agreement between the Air Force and the U.S. A demographic monitoring program will provide pertinent population data to develop a habitat management plan. The 490th Bombardment Group replaced the 470th and trained B-24 crews until it deployed to England in April 1944. The 494th Bombardment Group then replaced the 490th, still training Liberator crews. Following the wing's return from Southwest Asia, the Air Force began consolidating its B-1 Lancer and KC-135 Stratotanker forces. The 22 ARS' aircraft began transferring to McConnell AFB, Kansas, in May 2002 and the squadron inactivated the following August. The 34 BS' B-1Bs began moving to Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, in June and the squadron officially moved in September. Following the departure of these assets, the Air Force re-designated the 366th as a Fighter Wing. With these changes, the wing's 10-year mission as the Air Force's only standing air expeditionary wing came to an end.

Army Air Forces crews for World War II. The 396th Bombardment Group was the first unit assigned and its planned mission was to train crews for the B-17 Flying Fortress. However, before the first B-17s arrived, plans for the field changed and the 396th was transferred to Moses Lake AAF, Washington. The Veterans History Project Collection includes oral histories along with documentary materials such as original letters, diaries, photographs, and memoirs. The West Coast system was installed but never became operational because of the breakup of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. The West Coast System was officially placed in caretaker status and as it became clear that it was technologically outdated and unsupportable the equipment was removed and the remote sites put up for sale.
Mountain Home Air Force Base is an operation air station in Elmore County, Idaho. Mountain Home AFB is known across the United States Air Force as the home of the 366th Fighter Wing, better known as the Gunfighters. Located 12 miles southwest of Mountain Home, Idaho and 40 miles southeast of Boise, the remote base is tasked with providing combat air power and combat support to all United States forces across the globe. Mountain Home Air Force Base was built in 1942 and became operational in 1943. Various bombardment groups trained at the base, until the site was temporarily deactivated and transferred to the Air Force in 1948.
Three years later Mountain Home was active once more, as home of the 5th Reconnaissance Group and then the 5th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. Mountain Home Air Force Base was the logical result of the Air Force becoming a separate branch of service; in the 1950s the base briefly installed Titan missile sites-they were active for three short years. Recent rare plant surveys of the Mountain Home Air Force Base revealed the presence of three populations of Davis's peppergrass on the Small Arms Range.
